The Art, Practice and Details of Pelvic Steaming

I came to the practice of pelvic steaming personally many years ago, in the early phases of perimenopause. I was looking to find continued support in this transition which Ayurveda was already guiding me through and steaming has been a practice that has been used during different times of life, traditionally. Pelvic steaming brought unctuous, soothing, and nourishing herbs on the breath of nature’s most cosmic feminine element (water) deep into my body. A portal was accessed that opened the stories of my life in a very different way. Guidance, support, and connection showed up, important wisdom teachers of my life and helped me weave together the needed care and connection I had been knowing I needed without having the words. Over time (and still happening) I was able to release what was ready to flow away and create space for what was upstream. It has become one of my most honored and sacred practices and has connected me in a more centered and grounded way.

I could really go on and on, but I think I will direct you instead to a well-informed source. For more information, research, and education on steaming, please visit: www.steamychick.com . Of note is this widespread and ancient use of steaming across the globe, including a broad and well-documented pelvic steam testimonial database. Keli Garza has spent decades in the study, practice, and research on the value, importance, and necessity of pelvic/vaginal steaming. She is a phenomenal resource and guide and is also the person I took my training to receive my certification in vaginal/pelvic steam certification and facilitation. Thank you Keli for the incredible scope and practice you have shared with us, we are all so grateful.

Steaming is a wise and supportive practice that should be taken with preparation and awareness. To follow are a few guidelines to steer you:

When you come for your steam, please:

1. Wear comfortable clothing.

2. Wear socks so the cool nature of the earth's energy does not travel towards your pelvis.

3. Plan to have time after you leave the steam for rest and integration. Please limit plans, outings, or stressful activities for the remainder of the day.

It is also very important to listen to you body and to the wisdom of steaming’s guidance. Please refer to the list of contraindications below and don’t hesitate to ask many any questions.
